Present Outreach

Stainbeck Church is ideally situated for community outreach.  Currently the Church:

bullet runs the Community café which provides a friendly meeting place for local residents and is supported by the police and other local agencies.  Leeds North East Homes hold a monthly open surgery in the café to deal with any housing issues.
bullet holds a monthly service in Carr Croft Residential Home for the elderly.
bullet leads worship in St Gemma’s Hospice as part of an ecumenical team.
bullet provides a space for local Councillors to hold a monthly surgery.
bullet is open regularly for community meetings (eg Tenants and Residents Groups) and for Agency meetings and initiatives.
bullet provides space and opportunity for a Mums and Tots Lunch Club and Toy Library.  This is run by Surestart.

For details of these and other activities see monthly magazine (also on this site).

The Church has a good working relationship with Churches Together in Chapel Allerton and Meanwood (Anglican, Methodist, Roman Catholic, Baptist and Vineyard churches). We share with them in a variety of activities:

Services for Annual week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Lent events.

A Summer day out together in a local park.

An Advent Carol Service

United Carol Singing in Chapel Allerton, Meanwood and in the Beckhills.

A number of community initiatives are jointly undertaken.  These include:

·         An ecumenical community development project (The Three Churches Project) which has been set up to work with local communities through creative activities. This is based in Stainbeck Church and a development worker has been appointed. For information on courses and activities please look at the web site www.threechurches.org.uk

·        Preparing and serving lunch to the elderly in the neighbourhood one Sunday each month to support MENA (Meanwood Elders Neighbourhood Action).

·        Supporting a Drop in Centre at Chapel Allerton Methodist Centre each Wednesday afternoon - friendship for the elderly.

·        Contributing partners to the Two Hills Partnership – a project working on the two nearby local estates with young people. This is done in partnership with the Youth Service and OASIS Christian volunteers.
